Make a data protection request
Ask to see, correct, restrict or remove the information we hold about you, ask where it came from, or make a complaint. No account needed.
What this page is, and what it is not
The routes on this page are real: a request sent from here opens a case with a deadline, an owner and a record of what was done, and a request to stop takes effect as soon as we have confirmed it came from you, rather than when we finish considering it.
The wording has not been settled by a solicitor. Nothing on this page narrows any right you have, and if anything here turns out to say less than the law requires, the law is what applies.
Who this is for
Anybody. You do not need an account and you do not need to be a customer. Most people who use this page are not — they are somebody whose work contact details were published somewhere else and have ended up here.
You do not have to explain why, and you do not have to send us identity documents. We will only ask for anything more if we genuinely cannot tell who you are, and then only for what we need to be sure.
How we check the request is from you
We do not remove or change anything until we know the request came from the person the details are about. Otherwise anybody could have somebody else’s details taken down or changed. There are two ways we check:
- An email address we hold for you. If an email address on your request is one we hold, we send a confirmation link to that address — the address we hold, not to whichever address you asked us to reply to. Open the link and press the button within 48 hours. It works once. Your request takes effect when you do.
- A phone number or a name. If your request is about a phone number, or a name with no email address we hold, we check it ourselves — usually by ringing the number published alongside your details — before anything is removed. We will tell you by email when it is done.
Until one of those checks is done, we will not tell anybody — including you — whether we hold details for the address or number you gave. The same is true of where your details came from: we tell you that once we know it is you.
What you can ask for
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct something that is wrong, stop using your information, pause while something is sorted out, take your work contact details out of what we publish and sell, delete your information where the law requires it, or tell you where your details came from. You can also make a data protection complaint.
The quickest and narrowest option is simply removing your work contact details. It does not depend on anything else and you do not need to ask for anything bigger to get it.
When we will answer
We answer a request within one month. If your request is complicated we can take up to 2 months more, and if we need to we will tell you inside that first month and explain why — not afterwards.
A complaint is a different thing with a shorter deadline. We acknowledge one within 30 days of receiving it, then look into it and tell you the outcome. If you send us both in one message, we treat them as two things and answer both — finishing one does not close the other.
If you have asked us to stop doing something, we stop as soon as we have confirmed the request is from you — the moment you open the link, or the moment our own check is done — not when we have finished considering it. If we then decide we are entitled to carry on, we will tell you and explain why.
The form

Writing to us instead
You can write to us instead, and we will treat a letter or an email exactly as we treat this form, on the same deadlines.

Complaining to the regulator
You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office about how we have handled your information. You can do that whether or not you come to us first, and you do not need our permission or our reference number.
We would rather you gave us the chance to put it right, but that is a preference and not a condition.
